What is a Therapeutic Massage?

This is a creative healing art that involves applied techniques to the body's soft tissue structures to:
- relieve muscular pain and joint stiffness
- alleviate stress and tension
- improve circulation and help oxygenate the blood
- reduce blood pressure
- calm both body and mind
- help relieve a range of problems including headaches and digestive disorders.

All promoting overall Health and Wellness.

Types of Therapeutic Massage:

Swedish Massage - introduces basic strokes and techniques that manipulate the skin and the superficial muscles and tissues to alleviate sore muscles and fatigue, reduce stress and anxiety and promote overall relaxation. Oil, lotion or cream is applied, sometimes combined with pure essential oils and/or liniments.

Deep Tissue Massage - specific strokes are done slowly thus penetrating the body at a deeper level than in soft tissue massage. It relieves chronic pain patterns and deep muscular tension. It may involve the use of thumbs, knuckles, forearms or elbows in manipulating and stretching the connective tissue.

Reflexology - based on the principle that there are reflex points in the feet and hands which correspond to every part of the human body. Gentle pressure applied to points (reflexes) on the feet with the thumb and fingers to stimulate energy flow and release any blockages.  This can be incorporated into any type of massage treatment.

Prenatal Massage - pregnancy is a time of great physical and emotional change for a woman, therefore prenatal massage is a soothing and beneficial therapy for expecting mothers. This caring and nurturing touch minimizes emotional stress and relieves strain on muscles and joints that result from carrying extra weight. It is important that you check with your doctor or obstetrician if massage therapy is safe for your existing condition.

Stretching - is used to enhance your range of motion and flexibility and prevent injuries.  It can be incorporated with any of the therapeutic massage treatments.

Other treatment protocols such as Hot or Cold compresses, application of tension balms or liniments can be used to reduce muscle discomfort, spasm or inflammation.
